Pilar Reyes Noriega
Pilar was born in 1964 in Mexico City and raised in Cuernavaca City where she teaches art and yoga, attends yoga and art schools and creates art.
She graduated from college in 1987 at Universidad Iberoamericana as a graphic designer specialized in textiles and later entered the prestigious Academia de San Carlos (1992), to study a master in visual arts, since she was interested in painting from an early age.
Her motivation to learn different techniques , from many artists, schools, and workshops increased, always motivated in finding new ways to express herself: drawing, photography, sculpture, glass, human figure, engraving, ceramics, wood carving.
She is passionate about Color Theory and has become and expert and teacher.
Early in her career while learning traditional techniques and large-format painting at Centro Morelense de las Artes (Morelense Center for the Arts) she was known for her work in figurative painting, many of them inspired by the walls of talavera tiles that are very common in
her country.
Later and because or her interest in abstract expressionism, water techniques, sumi-e, oriental calligraphy and zen meditation she became more inspired to create abstract works full of color and based on her knowledge of color harmony.
During her 9 years of study at Centro Morelense de las Artes Pilar perfectioned her practice in watercolor and acrylic techniques. At the Water techniques workshop she became the personal assistant for the well known artist and teacher Huascar Taborga, where she was in charge of the color theory class.
In 2003 she was invited to join the Morelos State Watercolor artists society SAMAC, and in 2012 she was admitted in the Mexican Watercolor Artist Society , SMA.
Pilar has been invited to teach Color theory applied for watercolor technique in many schools, museums and universities.
Her art works have been showed in more than 92 art exhibitions, six of them of their own.
She received the first place Tlaloc award in the New Tendencies category at the Watercolor Museum of Mexico State, located in Toluca City in 2012. Because of this, her artwork was exhibited for half a year in a special area of this museum as an example of the new tendencies
in watercolor.
Ododeiktes greek magazine published her artwork in 2004 and 2006, and Pilar´s artwork was selected for the cover that commemorated the 25th anniversary. In the United States, Zeek magazine has shown her art works of Zen expressions.
Pilar has been invited in two occasions to join the exhibitions of the Morelos State best watercolor artists in the National Watercolor Museum, located in Mexico City.
In 2013 she was selected among other famous artist to participate in the project Artistas al cubo organized by the government institution DIF, (Integral Family Development) and the profits were donated to the Children´s State Hospital.
Her first solo art exhibition (2010) was held at Iberoamericana University Santa Fe campus in Mexico city, she earned this extraordinary honor as part of the eleven winners selected. Four years later her artwork Transformar (To transform) was selected to participate in the First Visual Arts exhibition created by former students and titled: Mundos vívidos: balance de miradas y visiones.
